Refineries & Petrochemical Plants | Myanmar Oil & Gas Industry | Investment in Myanamr

Refineries & Petrochemical Plants in Myanmar: Existing & Upcoming

Myanmar has three (3) refineries: Thanlyin, Chauk and Mann Thanpayarkan; having total capacity of 51000 Barrels of Oil Per Day (BOPD). Thanlynn refinery is already revamped by India loan project. Now Mann refinery is under revamping. There are 3 old and 2 new (total 5) fertilizer plants in Myanmar.

Ministry of Energy (MOE) is now planning to construct a new refinery near Thanpayakan; loading, offloading and jetty facilities are found much more favorable than any other places in Myanmar. The crude oil will be exported from the Middle East Country via China-Myanmar oil pipe line which is still under construction. CNPC has given its commitments to supply 2 million barrels of crude oil per year to MOE for the domestic use. Many Chinese Companies like CNPC, GDZR and Thai Companies are now approaching to MOE to get this new refinery project. MOE explained them that they can do feasibility study for this refinery projects by their own interest and cost incurred to complete the Feasibility Study Report (FSR) shall be borne by the investor(s).

With regard to Thanlyan refinery, total of 9 companies (from Japan, China, Korea, etc.) have already submitted their feasibility study reports and proposals for revamping the upgraded factory once again. This time, it is learnt that MOE will hire international tender specialists to evaluate the proposals of bidders.
