Minimum Wages in Myanmar

Recruitment in Myanmar, Minimum Wages of Workers; Myanmar Foreign Investment Law

We provide recruitment services in Myanmar & local content management consulting services to foreign & local Myanmar companies to meet the requirements of Myanmar Foreign Investment Law, SEZ Laws and Labor regulations in Myanmar. Myanmar Foreign Investment Law and Special Economic Zones (SEZ) Laws specifies requirements for employing local and foreign workers – unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled workers and expert professionals. According to the labor laws of Myanmar and with the suggestions of the relevant region or state governments, the National Committee shall determine the minimum wages of the workers.

In Myanmar “Wages” mean the fees, wage or salary which are entitle to obtained by the workers for carrying out of hourly, daily , weekly, monthly of any other part time work or any piece work of the employer. Overtime fees or bonus or any other remuneration given by the employer are included in this expression. The following fees are not included in the meaning of wage:

  1. Traveling allowance ;
  2. Pension salary and gratuity for service;
  3. Social security cash benefits;
  4. Allowance for accommodation and meals , electricity charges, water service charges and duties and taxes;
  5. Medical treatment allowance and recreation allowances;
  6. Damages for dismissal from work and gratuities;
  7. Other fees stipulated by the Ministry of Labor, Employment and social security that do not apply to the wage.


The Myanmar Minimum Wages Law has already been enacted. However notification with regard to the minimum wages in Myanmar has not yet been issued. In practice the Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC) office advices the investor to pay minimum wages Ks 100,000/- per month for unskilled labor. There are also provisions for termination benefits of workers in Myanmar which are being reviewed and new rules are expected to be enacted soon.
